Nonwovens have several merits over woven textiles. They havehigher filtration efficiency, better absorbancy andpermiability, non directional properties compared to wovens; theprocess is also cheaper because of ability to process recycledand waste fibres and make composites using wood pulp for makingwipes. Among the various methods of making nonwovens,hydroentanglement has the merit that it is ideally suited forcotton, translates the characteristics of fibres into fabric andretains textile character. Chemical bonding polymerises thebinder with the fibre to create bonds. Thermal bonding welds thefibres. So with both methods, inter-fibre movement isrestricted.
